South African street children

WRITTEN QUESTION E-3211/10
by Ashley Fox (ECR)
to the Commission

Constituents from across the southwest of England have expressed their concern to me that ahead of the upcoming World Cup in South Africa, street children are being forcibly removed from cities to rural areas in order to present a more pleasant image of the country to the influx of tourists expected.

Does the Commission have any knowledge of this policy?

What assurances can the Commission give that these children are being treated humanely, and are not suffering for the sake of South African national pride?

What representations, if any, has the Commission made to the South African government?
