Question for written answer
to the Council
Rule 117
Jacek Włosowicz (EFD)

Subject:  Ukrainian membership of the European Union
 Answer(s)

We are all closely following the developments in Ukraine. The Ukrainians are probably the only people in Europe who are dying for the European idea. Therefore, it is with added distress that I note the lack of will on the part of some Member States to grant Ukraine membership of the EU. In my opinion, such an approach is harmful to Ukraine and goes against the European Union's values.

I appeal to the Council to provide a guarantee that Ukraine will be granted membership of the European Union once it has fulfilled the treaty requirements. Is the Council able to provide such a guarantee?
