Impact of Brexit on the EU fisheries sector

Question for written answer E-005664-16
to the Commission
Rule 130
José Blanco López (S&D) , Clara Eugenia Aguilera García (S&D)

On 23 June 2016, the United Kingdom held a referendum on EU membership and 51.9% of those who voted were in favour of the UK leaving the Union. The British Prime Minister has resigned so that the withdrawal process can start.

One of the social consequences has been a clear increase in hostility towards foreigners, as reflected in a rise of more than 50% in the number of racist incidents. In the economic sphere, the value of sterling has plummeted to levels last seen 30 years ago and the yield on UK Government bonds is at an all-time low.

The outcome is a severe disappointment to all pro-Europeans, but perhaps not a surprise, given the way the referendum campaign unfolded.

In the Commission's view, how will Brexit affect the fisheries sector in the future EU-27, with particular reference to the allocation of quotas among the Member States?
