E-001772-17
Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 130
Cornelia Ernst (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  EU Internet Forum and content removal
 Answer(s)

In a press release entitled ‘EU Internet Forum: progress of terrorist content online’ dated 10 March 2017, the Commission announced that 90% of the content referred by Europol to those Internet companies involved in the Internet Forum had been removed.(1)

Against this background, the Commission is asked to answer the following:
1. Why is this considered a success of the Internet Forum, given that Europol is simply carrying out the task assigned to it in Article 4.1(m) of Regulation 2016/794?
2. Precisely what proportion of the content referred by Europol to the Internet companies was illegal?
3. What proportion of the content referred by Europol to the Internet companies was subject to: (a) referral to, and (b) investigation or prosecution by national law enforcement and judicial authorities?
