Parliamentary questions
6 October 2017
Question for written answer
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Angelo Ciocca (ENF)

Subject:  VP/HR — Seizure of the motorised fishing boat Anna Madre

For 18 days the master and the engineer of the Anna Madre, a motorised fishing boat, have been unable to leave the port of Sfax, in Tunisia, because their vessel was seized in international waters by Tunisian soldiers on 15 September.

The two crewmen, who have been left to their fate by the Italian and EU authorities, are in great danger of damaging their health, as they do not have the medicines that they need.

The two Italians are facing a very serious situation and, having been all but abandoned at the Tunisian port, have been on hunger strike for more than ten days.

The fishermen on the Anna Madre need assistance as a matter of urgency, given that they have no one to speak on their behalf and are therefore at the mercy of the Tunisian security forces.

In the light of the foregoing, can the High Representative take every possible step to secure the release of the two Italians?
