Parliamentary questions
10 July 2018
P-003794-18
Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 130
Brian Hayes (PPE)

Subject:  Geographical balance of EU staff
 Answer(s)

On 15 June 2018, the Commission published a report on the geographical balance of EU staff.

The report states that in the AD5-AD8 grade bracket, 10 nationalities are ‘significantly underrepresented’. It goes on to state that this situation calls for ‘targeted measures’. to increase the level of representation of those nationalities who otherwise risk to be faced with a ‘generation gap’.

Irish nationality is one of those significantly underrepresented in this bracket.

1. What targeted measures is the Commission considering to ensure that nationalities including Irish do not face a ‘generation gap’?

2. Given that the Commission, in its HR figures for 2018, provides the age ranges for all 32 196 of its staff members but not on a country-by-country basis, and states that it has 527 Irish staff members as of 1 January 2018, can it provide the age ranges for those 527 staff members?

3. Will the Commission consider conducting country-specific competitions in order to ensure that nationalities such as Irish are represented appropriately in different grade brackets?
