EP President Statement on the Mid-Term Revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020

Press Release
Internal Policies and EU Institutions

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani welcomed today’s plenary vote on the first ever mid-term revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework.

President Tajani stated: “The EU budget needs to follow our political priorities based on citizens’ concerns. This vote shows we can adapt our long-term budget to new realities. We set funds aside to strengthen security, control immigration flows and create more and better jobs.

The European Parliament has shown its responsibility by accelerating this revision and voting expediently to allow budgetary allocations to reach priority areas immediately.

We need to back up our promises with concrete means. This mid-term review reinforces our efforts with an extra six billion euros dedicated to our greatest concerns, including measures to address the root causes of migration outside Europe, and actions for jobs and growth, especially through the Youth Employment Initiative.

The EU budget should be used strategically to give an impetus to the achievement of our political objectives, thereby fostering unity and European identity."
