European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, will welcome Montenegro President, Milo Đukanović, to the European Parliament tomorrow where he will address MEPs at approximately 11:30.

Commenting ahead of his arrival, President Antonio Tajani said:

“President Đukanović is the first leader from a candidate country to address the European Parliament plenary in a solemn sitting. I invited him with the belief that the future of Western Balkans must be strongly anchored in the European Union.  We have to work together for our common security, prosperity and the management of migration flows. Stability in the region means stability for all of Europe.”

Note to editors:

With thirty out of thirty-five negotiating chapters opened and three provisionally closed, Montenegro is currently considered the Western Balkan country that has made the most progress in the EU accession process. Montenegro successfully participates in many EU initiatives such as Erasmus+, COSME, Horizon2020, Creative Europe and is in the lead as the highest per capita recipient of EU investment grants under the connectivity agenda. Last year, Montenegro joined NATO, strong proof that the country is embracing EU common values and aligning itself with EU foreign and security policy goals.
