Yesterday the European Parliament elected a new Commission and in so doing brought to a successful conclusion the process which began with the nomination of leading candidates for the European elections. Congratulations to Jean-Claude Juncker and his newly-elected Commission. The European Council and the European Parliament have together succeeded in ushering in a new democratic era in the European Union, by establishing a new constitutional procedure which did not necessitate a revision of the Treaties.
