House of European History - Brussels

On 6 May 2017, the House of European History was officially opened to the public in the beautifully renovated Eastman Building in the Parc Léopold, in direct neighbourhood to the European Parliament. Its exhibits are available in all 24 official European Union languages and entrance is free, offering a fascinating experience for all. Klaus Welle in his speech given at the official opening of the House of European History explains its idea, its implementation and the expectations towards this impressive project.

The Walsh School of Foreign Service, in conjunction with the BMW Center for German and European Studies and the Master of Science in Foreign Service program, hosted a discussion with European Parliament Secretary-General Klaus Welle about the future of the EU given the ever-changing global context.

 

The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU hosted for two days a joint meeting with Members and officials of the European Parliament during the February 2017 plenary session in Strasbourg and dedicated itself to continue strengthening the transatlantic relationship. The Secretary-General Klaus Welle was among the invited gala dinner speakers.

On 29 September the Egmont Royal Institute for International Relations in Brussels invited a number of high level speakers to a seminar on Europe Sovereignty in order to discuss recent issues and topics facing the European project. The Secretary-General Klaus Welle could share his opinion on recent changes and potential further developments of the European Union with the participants during the introductory part of the seminar.

 
Eurobarometer of the European Parliament

The recent Special Eurobarometer of the European Parliament was dedicated to the perceptions and expectations of Europeans regarding the EU’s action. It was conducted in the 28 Member States of the EU from 9 to 18 April 2016. A massive majority of citizens would like the EU to intervene more in twelve important areas.

The Secretary-General

The Secretary-General is Parliament's most senior official.  As his title implies. he heads the Secretariat.  The Bureau decides the Secretariat's membership and organisation.  The Secretary-General is responsible for Parliament's administration.  He is appointed by the Bureau under Rule 207 of the Rules of Procedure.
