Regionalisation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the Impact on Structural Policy and the Multiannual Guidance Programmes (MGP) with Regard to Agenda 2000

Studie 01-01-1999

Fisheries are a very localised activity linked to resources and human and productive structures. The economic and social cohesion policy has already recognised this fact and created the FIFG to provide specific and territorial support for fishing activity. In this context the regionalisation of the common fisheries policy could over a 5 to 15 year period help to reduce the over-exploitation of resourceds and to strengthen the economies in coastal areas. To achieve this goal the principle of relative stability would be replaced by a local resources management system based on the implementation of regional programmes.
