Members of the European Parliament form official groups – delegations – with ties to regions and organisations, as well as parliaments, in non-EU countries. Parliament has expanded its impact EU in foreign policy in recent decades, and its delegations are a key component of its diplomatic work.

The present study provides an overview of how the European Union and the European Parliament (EP) contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights in Ukraine. Η οργάνωση και η λειτουργία του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου διέπονται από τον Κανονισμό του. Τα πολιτικά όργανα, οι επιτροπές, οι αντιπροσωπείες και οι πολιτικές ομάδες καθοδηγούν τις δραστηριότητες του Κοινοβουλίου.

Η στήριξη της δημοκρατίας ανά τον κόσμο αποτελεί προτεραιότητα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Το δημοκρατικό πολίτευμα παραμένει το μόνο σύστημα διακυβέρνησης στο οποίο οι πολίτες μπορούν να ασκήσουν πλήρως τα δικαιώματα του ανθρώπου και είναι καθοριστικός παράγοντας για ανάπτυξη και μακρόπνοη σταθερότητα. Το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο, ως το μόνο θεσμικό όργανο της ΕΕ που εκλέγεται άμεσα από τους πολίτες της Ένωσης, είναι ιδιαίτερα προσηλωμένο στην προαγωγή της δημοκρατίας.

Η ΕΕ έχει συμφωνίες συνεργασίας με το Συμβούλιο Συνεργασίας του Κόλπου (περιφερειακό οργανισμό που περιλαμβάνει το Μπαχρέιν, το Κουβέιτ, το Ομάν, το Κατάρ, τη Σαουδική Αραβία και τα Ηνωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα), και με την Υεμένη, και συμφωνία εταιρικής σχέσης και συνεργασίας με το Ιράκ. Επί του παρόντος η ΕΕ δεν διατηρεί συμβατικές σχέσεις με το Ιράν, αλλά αναγνωρίζει ότι υπάρχουν πολλές δυνατότητες για εμβάθυνση των σχέσεων.

Από το 2014, οι σχέσεις ΕΕ-Ρωσίας έχουν τεθεί σε δοκιμασία λόγω ενεργειών της Ρωσίας όπως η παράνομη προσάρτηση της Κριμαίας, η στήριξη των ανταρτών στην ανατολική Ουκρανία, οι πολιτικές της Ρωσίας στην περιοχή και εσωτερικές εξελίξεις.
