Instandhouding van visbestanden

01-01-2018

Research for PECH Committee - Small-Scale Fisheries Markets: Value Chain, Promotion and Labelling

15-04-2016

The revised Common Market Organisation (CMO) is a great opportunity for small-scale fisheries (SSF) producers to better access the market and to compete successfully with imported fishery products. The aim of intervention is to give the consumer the opportunity to buy a fresh, safe, and environmentally-friendly product, and to guarantee an acceptable income to local SSF fishers.

The Future of the Almadraba Sector – Traditional Tuna Fishing Methods in the EU

15-04-2015

Bluefin tuna is one of the most important fish species in terms of value and source of employment in the EU. Eastern Bluefin Tuna trap set (“Almadraba”) harvesting is currently only practiced in Italy, Morocco, Portugal and Spain, though such fishing method was widely used throughout the Mediterranean Sea, and is of socio-economic and cultural relevance. Almadraba are more labour-intensive than any other fishing method and their production is increasingly appreciated by a high-end consumer market ...

Almadrabas must be considered as one key-tool of the EBFT stock management because of their available historic biometric datasets.

Inland Fisheries and the Common Fisheries Policy

15-01-2014

Commercial inland fisheries are small-scale, labour intensive, traditional fisheries mostly using passive gear. They produce high value products of local importance. Inland fisheries will not be heavily influenced by the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy as they are mainly managed nationally. Diadromous species may benefit from the reforms as long as they are properly implemented. The new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund has greater potential to provide increased support to inland fisheries ...

Small-scale fisheries in the Common Fisheries Policy

08-11-2012

The reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is being negotiated by the European Parliament and the Council. Some proposals aim at a differentiated approach for small-scale fisheries (SSF), but the characterisation of "small-scale" is far from uniform in view of the diversity of the EU fishing fleet and its activities.
