This Policy Department A study examines precarious employment, its patterns, trends and policy strategies in Europe. It explores the risk of precariousness of different types of contract, using information from EU data analysis and literature review, as well as case studies of eight EU Member States. It finds that there are a range and degrees of risks of precariousness associated with all types of contract, based on key indicators of precariousness.

Multiple Sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease. It affects over 600 000 people in Europe, but the treatment and support that Multiple Sclerosis sufferers receive varies widely depending on where they live. It is mostly diagnosed between 20 and 30 years of age, frequently at the beginning of a professional career. People suffering from Multiple Sclerosis may require flexibility and specific facilities from the employer given the unpredictable and variable nature of the condition.

Women in Fisheries: A European Perspective

This note gives an overview of the current situation faced by women in the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Europe and the prerequisites for improved gender mainstreaming. It presents and discusses the available data on female employment in the sector, the problems faced by women’s fisheries organisations and their future prospects. The note also proposes that the impact of the EFF on the promotion of gender equality should be evaluated, and outlines the expectations vested in the EMFF.

The study analyses the role of economically dependent self-employed workers in the labour market by taking institutional factors into account, such as labour law and social protection rights. In addition to setting out the reasons for the increase of dependent self-employed workers, the authors provide case studies across various sectors of selected EU Member States.
