Brexit and the EP: What it means for the food sector - London 18th May 2018

The EU has held the major competency over food policy for decades, from food safety to security and trade to tariffs. The debate explored the impact of Brexit on the future of UK food policy across the agri-food chain sector.

Understanding how decades of EU food policy will be transferred into UK Government legislation is imperative given its far reaching implications. This event seeked to bring the view of the European Parliament to the UK and to discuss with key experts from industry, consumer groups, academia and Government in a public debate.

The result of the UK’s referendum on EU membership which took place on  23rd June 2016 and the triggering of Article 50, the official mechanism for starting the process of withdrawal from the European Union,   will have dramatic impacts on many aspects of the UK’s economy.

This free event was to all who were interested in hearing various views on the important changes facing the food industry, particularly food security, food safety and food trade.
