European Parliaments Events 2015

This was our final "Meet your MEP" event from the series for 2015. Diane Dodds MEP shared details about her work at the European Parliament and her view on the upcoming EU referendum. The big turnout for the event resulted in an interesting Q&A session with members of the audience. The questions touched upon a variety of contemporary issues, including the refugee crisis, through the impact of Northern Irish MEPs in the European Parliament and the EU fishing discard ban.

Meet your MEP with David Coburn audience
For our last "Meet Your MEP" event for 2015 in Scotland, David Coburn MEP talked to the public about his work at the European Parliament and discussed "Why the EU should be dissolved for the good of all Europe". During his talk he also commented on the future of the UK and Scotland in Europe.

On Friday 20 November, we hosted at our office a discussion event part of the Parliament Week series, in partnership with Democratic Society. This was an interactive event for people aged 18-30, which explained and explored the interactions between the European and the Scottish Parliaments in the context of the future of democracy. Our Head of Office, Per Johansson spoke at the event about the European Parliament and the work of the Information Office.

On Wednesday 18 November, we hosted a discussion event at Glasgow University in partnership with the Glasgow Human Rights Network, looking at all nominees for the 2015 Sakharov Prize. The European Parliament's Sakharov Prize is awarded annually to honour exceptional individuals who combat intolerance, fanaticism and oppression.

On Friday 15th May, Ian Duncan MEP was joined by Lang Banks, Director of WWF Scotland; Ian Scrimgeour, Director of the Aberdeen Institute of Energy; and Maggie McGinley, Director of Energy and Clean Technology at Scottish Enterprise to discuss the implications for Scotland, the UK and Europe of the move towards Energy Union.
