A discussion on gender based violence marks International Women's Day
To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, we partnered with Europe Direct Aberdeen to organise a panel discussion centred on tackling gender based violence. The event drew a full house, with attendees coming from throughout Aberdeen and beyond to explore how to address troubling attitudes that contribute to the continuance of violence against women across the EU.
Stella's Voice presented their work supporting victims of sex trafficking through providing shelter and help in finding employment. A PhD researcher spoke about her study into violence against women as a sociological phenomenon that stems from wider social and economic inequalities. Rape Crisis Grampian then quizzed the audience on attitudes towards consent, which highlighted alarming trends across Europe. These presentations set the scene for an engaged and lively discussion, where personal experiences as well as potential means to work towards greater gender equality were explored.
