Euroscola Day at the European Parliament in Strasbourg
An enthusiastic group of students from eleven Glasgow City Council schools and one North Ayrshire school attended the annual visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg in October 2011.
At the beginning of their Euroscola session in the Hemicycle (the European Parliament's chamber), Eva Freer (St. Matthew's Secondary) and Jacob Hay (Cleveden Secondary) presented their group in French to an audience of some 600 - the only presentation out of 20 that was given in French. Mr Evangelos Gintersos, Director of Public Relations for the Bureau of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, congratulated the Scottish students. Other Scottish students also posed their questions in French.
One of the students commented: "I had an incredible time in Strasbourg. The language workshops helped to consolidate and build upon the French we learnt in class. The immersion among French people helped to improve my oral French, and being able to speak in the Parliament was an invaluable experience. The company was great and the memories I have taken away will last a long time. Thanks to all!" (Jacob)
