The audience raised a wide range of topics

The audience raised a wide range of topics, from food labelling to cultivation of Genetically Modified crops and from how best to promote education about nutrition to the recent E-Coli outbreak in Germany. A show of hands was take on some of the controversial issues and showed, for example, a majority of those present through the labelling to show the calorie content of alcoholic drinks would be a good idea. The MEPs reported that legislation in this area might come forward in the next year or two.

Professor Peter J. Morgan, said: "Food is crucial to our health and to the economy, yet in the future its production and consumption provide some real challenges, so it was a good opportunity to debate what our options may be."
