The 5th Congress of Polish Student Societies in Great Britain

The 5th Congress of Polish Student Societies in Great Britain took place on 22-25 March 2012 at the Universities of Edinburgh and St Andrew's.  The European Parliament Office in Edinburgh was one of the sponsors of the Congress. This year, due to the recent Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union, the event was entitled: "Poland PLC on the European Market".  

Among the key speakers at the Congress was a Polish MEP Bogusław Sonik who talked about the political importance of Poland in the European Union.  Other speakers were: Paweł Lisiewicz, the Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, Dariusz Łaska, Minister Counsellor, Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to the UK, Tomasz Trafas, Polish Consul General in Edinburgh, Artur Kozłowski, the Chairman of the Office for Polish Community Abroad and Professor Zbigniew Pełczyński, University of Oxford.

The first day of Congress in Edinburgh finished with the workshops for leaders and members of Polish Student Societies on how to make their society stand out.  The events of the second day of Congress took place at St Andrew's University.  Subjects discussed included: "The image of Poles in Europe. Stereotypes and perceptions. How to overcome negative stereotypes? What is known about Poland in Europe?" and "The national brand of Poland - does the promotional campaign exist? If not, how to create it?"

The Congress ended on Sunday, 25 March at Edinburgh University.
