SEET Schools Quiz 2012 on 14th May
On 14th May the final of the annual schools Euro-quiz, organised by the Scottish European Eductational Trust (SEET), took place in the Debating Chamber of the Scottish Parliament. Thirty teams took part, representing schools from Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway. The finlaists had won through from almost 1500 pupils from 370 schools competing in the heats held across 30 of the 32 local authorities throughout the school year.
Congratulations went to the P6 team from St Mary's Duntocher Primary School, West Dunbartonshire, winners for the third time in the past 4 years. Team members Kieran Gallacher, Sian Hinde, Tom McAllister and Jude Molloy beat the team from Bearsden Primary School in East Dumbartonshire in the exciting final round.
The quiz aims to help Scotland's Primary Six pupils develop their knowledge of Europe and the European Union, as well as getting them to use core skills such as teamwork and communication. This year's event was sponsored by the European Commission office in Scotland, Scottish MEPs Ian Hudghton, David Martin, Alyn Smith, Struan Stevenson and Catherine Stihler and various individuals and Trusts. Questions were put by Elaine Smith MSP, Deputy Presiding Officer, while James Temple-Smithson, Head of the European Parliament's Office in Scotland, provided the answers.
