Scottish European Resources Network (SERN)
On 23rd November the Scottish European Resources Network (SERN), which is co-organised by the European Commission and European Parliament Offices in Scotland, held its annual meeting at the EP Office in Edinburgh. It was attended by over 30 members of SERN who heard three presentations on the "20th anniversary of the completion of the Single Market".
The keynote speaker was Catherine Stihler MEP who discussed some key achievements of the Single Market, how and to what extent Scottish businesses and consumers benefit, and what does not work and needs to change.
She was joined by Professor Niamh Nic Shuibhne, from the school of Law at Edinburgh University, who spoke about the legal framework underpinning the Single Market and the future challenges it faces. Finally, Elizabeth McNeil and Anis Mourad, from Enterprise Europe Scotland, outlined the importance of the Single Market for Scottish Business. The presentations were followed by a Q&A, which was chaired by Graham Blythe, Head of the European Commission Office in Edinburgh.
