First German Career Fair in Scotland

On 2nd March 2012 the European Parliament Edinburgh Office participated in the first "Think German" Careers Fair which took place in the Forrester High School, Edinburgh. The event was organized by the German Consulate, the City of Edinburgh Council and the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce Scotland. Almost 500 students from 14 schools and universities from all over Scotland attended and about 20 companies and organisations with links to Germany exhibited.

The EP stand distributed information and answered questions about internships and careers in the European Parliament and other EU institutions, as well as providing general information about the work and role of MEPs.  The Head of the Office gave a presentation to students about the importance of language skills for working in Europe.

German Consul General Wolfgang Moessinger commented: "We were aware of an increase in economic links with Germany, especially in the renewable and energy sector, but could not have predicted such support for an initiative that essentially highlights the impact of German language skills on employability."
