MEPs return to Brussels on 10 April for a week of committee meetings and political group meetings.

Committee highlights:

Common European Sales Law
Members from the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection will meet on 12.04.12 to exchange views on Common European Sales Law (co-rapporteurs: Hans-Peter MAYER (EPP, DE) and Evelyne GEBHARDT (S&D, DE)). The objective of the proposal is to improve the functioning of the internal market through a uniform set of contract law rules including provisions to protect consumers.


Secret renditions and detentions - Protecting human rights while countering terrorism
The Sub-committee on Human Rights will hold a public hearing on 12.04.12 on CIA flights and secret detentions. The focus will be on UN prospective and USA policy in protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism. NATO procedures in that matter will also be a topic.


Organised crime: Members appointed to new special committee
The forty-five strong membership of the new special committee on organised crime, corruption and money laundering was approved by Parliament on 29.03.12. The committee will have a one-year mandate and a remit for analysing and evaluating the extent of organised crime as well as its impact on the Union amongst other things. It is to start work by the end of April 2012.


Workshop on the sound level of motor vehicles
Policy Department A, Economic and Scientific Policy is organising a workshop on the sound level of motor vehicles on 11.04.12 from  09.30  to 12.30.  The workshop will discuss the Commission proposal, examine the environmental and health risks, hear from the car and tyre industries, and look at how vehicle noise can be reduced.
