MEPs return to Brussels on Monday for a week of committee meetings and hearings.


Committee highlights:

Exchange of views with the OSCE Secretary General
On 26.11.12, the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold an exchange of views with Lamberto Zannier, Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The meeting, organised jointly with the Subcommittees on Security and Defence and on Human Rights, will be held from 15.00-16.00.

Recognition of Professional Qualifications
On 29.11.12, at 10.45, Members of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection will proceed with a second exchange of views on the amendments on the legislative draft Report of MEP Vergnaud (FR- (S&D). The amendments focus on the core issues of the Commission's proposal, as well as on specific points touched upon by the Rapporteur.

Tonio Borg approved as new Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection
During the plenary sitting of 21.11.12, in Strasbourg, Members of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection and Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, approved the nomination of Mr Tonio Borg as new Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection by 386 votes in favour, 281 against and 28 abstentions. Mr Borg was nominated by the Maltese government to replace Mr John Dalli, following his resignation as Health Commissioner. The vote in plenary took place after the hearing held by ENVI in association with IMCO and AGRI, on 13.11.12.

Members attend ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly in Suriname
A large number of members of the Committee on Development will be attending the 24th session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held in Paramaribo (Suriname) from 27-29.11.12. It will be preceded by meetings of the three standing committees on 25.11.12 and two workshops and a Bureau meeting on 26.11.12.
