MEPs return to Brussels on 15 October for a week of committee meetings and political group meetings in preparation for the plenary session in Strasbourg 22-23 October and 25-26 October.


Committee highlights:

Workshop on the EU-Korea FTA: One year after its entry into force
A year after the entry into force of the EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement, has the FTA contributed to growth and jobs and brought benefits to citizens? Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht, South Korea's Trade Minister Taeho Bark, Members, experts from the academia and stakeholders will discuss the implementation of the first new generation FTA at the Workshop in the Committee on International Trade on 16.10.12

Organised crime: working document and thematic papers
On 15.10.12, the Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering will draw its first lessons from the series of hearings held on organised crime through the presentation and discussion of a Working Document prepared by the Rapporteur (Salvatore IACOLINO, PPE,  IT) and four Thematic Papers prepared by various Members on asset confiscation, drug cartels, trafficking in human beings and cybercrime.

Join the European Single Market week
On the occasion of the European Single Market's 20th anniversary, the Single Market Week is being organised from 15 - 20.10.12, with events taking place in the 27 Member States of the EU. The launch of the Single Market Week will take place in Brussels on 15.10.12 in the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection. It will bring together 400 citizens from across the EU and focus on real stories and experiences of the Single Market.

Hearing on Commission's recent initiatives to fight against fraud and corruption
On 15.10.12, the Committee on Budgetary Controlholds a hearing on "Commission's recent initiatives to fight against fraud and corruption: An improvement for the protection of the Union's financial interest?" (Rapporteur: Jens GEIER (S&D, DE)).  External guests will give their perspective, in particular on whether these initiatives will contribute effectively to fighting fraud and corruption and the improvement of prosecution.
