Presidents of Israel and Palestine, Energy efficiency and renewables, and Panama Papers/inquiry committee members - this week in the European Parliament

MEPs return to Brussels for committee meetings on Monday 20th of June.



Presidents of Israel and Palestine. Reuven Rivlin, the President of the State of Israel, will address Parliament in a formal sitting on Wednesday at 15.00. The next day, Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority, will speak in plenary session at 11.00. Both presidents will meet EP President Schulz and make joint press statements, on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Energy efficiency and renewables. Parliament will assess member states’ progress towards the EU targets of using 20% less energy, and at least 20% from renewable sources, by 2020. (Debates and votes on Thursday)

Panama Papers/inquiry committee members. Parliament will vote to appoint 65 MEPs from all political groups to the "Panama Papers" inquiry committee, set up on 8 June to investigate alleged contraventions and maladministration in the application by the EU Commission or member states of EU laws on money laundering, tax avoidance and tax evasion. (Thursday)
