Helmut Kohl memorial and committee highlights – this week at the European Parliament

A busy week awaits the MEPs with committee meetings and seminars in Brussels. We have selected the highlights for you below:



European memorial ceremony for Helmut Kohl. A European memorial ceremony in honour of former Chancellor of Germany and Honorary Citizen of Europe Helmut Kohl will take place in the EP in Strasbourg on Saturday. Speakers include EP President Antonio Tajani, European Council President Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and former President of the United States Bill Clinton.

Terrorism. Eurojust President Michèle Coninsx will present the main points of the Eurojust 2016 report on Foreign Terrorist Fighters to the members of the Civil Liberties Committee and discuss its findings with them. (Thursday)

Inter-religious dialogue. As part of a series of dialogue seminars organised by the EP with Europe's churches and religions and philosophical and non-confessional organisations, the next seminar will look at "The future of Europe – Reflections for the EU by 2025”. EP First Vice-President Mairead McGuinness and Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans will kick off the discussion. (Tuesday)
