Facebook/Cambridge Analytica, EU Council and EU-US relations - This week at the European Parliament

Highlights

European Council. EP President Antonio Tajani will address EU leaders at 14:00 BST on the major topics for discussion at the summit, namely migration, security and defence, economic and budgetary matters as well as Brexit, and hold a press conference at 15:00 BST. (Thursday)

EU-US relations. After recent unilateral decisions by the US administration to pull out of various international deals and organisations, Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs will assess the state of EU-US relations and particularly the "America first" policy and disagreements on trade, the Iran deal and the Middle East peace process. MEPs strive for strong EU-US relations, as the backbone of global stability. (Thursday)

Facebook/Cambridge Analytica.   Following up on the 22 May meeting between Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Parliament’s political leadership, MEPs will hold a second public hearing with Facebook representatives (the first was on 4 June) to look into ensuring data protection and preventing illegal use of data. (Monday)
