MEPs return to Brussels on 6 May for committee meetings.

 

Committee highlights:

Debate with NATO Secretary General Rasmussen
The Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence will hold a debate with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, in the presence of representatives from National Parliaments. The meeting will take place on 06.05.13.


Vote on Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived
The legislative report on the proposal establishing a fund for European aid to the most deprived will be voted by the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs on 07.05.13. Once set in place, the fund would address the most severe forms of poverty, food deprivation, as well as homelessness and material deprivation of children and would support social reintegration of the most deprived persons.


Vote on CO2 emissions reduction from light commercial vehicles by 2020
The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on the legislative report on defining the modalities for reaching the 2020 target to reduce CO2 emissions from new light commercial vehicles during the meeting of 06-07.05.13. Members will also discuss the legislative draft reports on Indirect Land Use Change and on Environmental Impact Assessment.


Mid-Term Report vote; Interparliamentary Meeting on fighting criminality
The Special Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering will vote on its mid-term report (Salvatore IACOLINO (EPP, IT)) on 07.05.13, which is then to be voted by the whole Parliament during its plenary sitting of 13.06.13. An Interparliamentary Committee Meeting will also be held to discuss experiences in the fight against criminality together with national counterparts.


"Understanding Political Islam: Views from Within": high level conference
The Committee on Foreign Affairs will host a conference on "Understanding Political Islam: Views from Within" on 07.05.13. This conference will provide the opportunity to establish political dialogue with members of governments and high level representatives of the Islamist parties currently in power in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
