Jihad recruitment, EU banking sector and Ukraine elections - this week in the European Parliament
MEPs return to Brussels on 19th October for a mixed week of Committee and Political Group meetings ahead of the Plenary next week.
Radicalisation and jihad recruitment. Prevention of radicalisation and jihad recruitment of young Europeans will be discussed by the Civil Liberties Committee. Members will table proposals on how to step up information exchange on radicalised European citizens in Europe, and how to fight radicalisation online and in prisons. (Monday)
EU banking sector stability. Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee Members will debate the Single Supervisory Mechanism and its role ensuring the safety of the European banking system and financial stability with the European Central Bank's supervisory board chair Danièle Nouy. (Monday)
Ukraine/ elections. A European Parliament electoral observation mission will go to Ukraine to observe the local elections. MEPs plan to observe the casting and counting of votes in Kiev, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk, regions close to the conflict areas in east Ukraine. (Thursday-Monday)
