Constitutional affairs MEPs to discuss Brexit negotiations with Guy Verhofstadt

Constitutional Affairs MEPs will discuss recent developments related to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU with EP Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt on Wednesday.

Mr Verhofstadt (ALDE, BE) is expected to assess the progress of the Brexit negotiations ahead of the upcoming second round of formal discussions between EU and UK government officials. The opening of the talks took place on 19 June 2017.

The European Parliament has already laid out its key principles and conditions for approving the UK's withdrawal agreement. Any such agreement at the end of UK-EU negotiations will need to win the approval of a majority of MEPs.

Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group, chaired by Guy Verhofstadt, has also presented an assessment of the British government’s recent offer to grant EU citizens in the UK a "settled status" after Brexit.

The discussion will take place on Wednesday 12 July, starting at 11.10. You can watch the meeting here.
