Solutions are possible in future EU-UK relationship in JHA

EP coordinator for Brexit presented his views on a possible future framework in the field of police and judicial cooperation between the EU and the UK after Brexit.

At the Fundamental rights Agency in Vienna, Guy Verhofstadt (ALDE, BE) appeared alongside Michel Barnier, the EU Brexit negotiator.

The EP coordinator for Brexit underlined that “the safety of our citizens cannot be compromised. It is of the greatest importance that we maintain a very close and effective relationship with the UK in terms of security.” He stressed that “solutions are possible. But they cannot be simply based on continuing the same processes as before.” He reiterated the Parliament’s resolution in favour of an Association agreement managing all areas of EU-UK future relationship.

Guy Verhofstadt will be travelling to London later today to attend meetings with the British Secretary of State for exiting the EU, David Davis and Home Secretary, Sajid Javid before appearing in front of the House of Commons select committee on exiting the EU and the House of Commons Home affairs select committee on Wednesday.
