President Schulz visits UK and awards Citizens Prize

During the G8 Speakers meeting in London last week Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament meet with Ed Milliband and made time for a courtesy call on the Houses of Parliament Lord Speaker Baroness D'Souza and Commons Speaker John Bercow MP.

Later at Europe House, President Schulz awarded the prestigious European Parliament's Citizens Prize to Advice on Individual Rights in Europe (AIRE) received on their behalf by Saadiya Chaudary, Solicitor & Legal Project Manager and Ellie Sibley.

AIRE was awarded the prize for its exceptional achievements in promoting the rights of EU Citizens, notably in assisting victims of human trafficking and helping those who may have most difficulty in asserting their fundamental rights in EU law across the EU and candidate countries. Special note was made of their advice work to lawyers and NGOs, which has been exemplary.

Jean Lambert MEP in her recommendation of AIRE for the European Parliament's Citizens' Prize said, "Representing the diverse population of London, I have long admired the work carried out by the AIRE centre".
