“Orchestra Progress. A Story of Afghan Women"
“Orchestra Progress. A Story of Afghan Women" (dur. 36’, 2017, Afghanistan, Italy) directed by Mohammad Behroozian. “Orchestra progress” is the tale of four human rights’ defenders in Afghanistan. Through the narration of the daily life of a female judge, a woman senator, a female education rights activist, and the director of the first mixed school in Kabul, the movie depicts the resilience of a society where women are still suffering from lack of rights.
The film characters are the testimonials of a new timid renaissance; they are championing human rights and women empowerment, even when their life might be in danger. At the background of the stories of these four characters, there is the extraordinary experience of the girls’ orchestra of Kabul orphanage, where dozens of girls between 10 and 18 years of age are struggling against social conservativism by means of their musical talent.
The documentary has been realized by COSPE Onlus in the frame of AHRAM (Afghanistan Human Rights Action and Mobilisation), a project co- founded by European Union .
* AHRAM project is enhancing respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in Afghanistan, by supporting human rights’ defenders. AHRAM project promotes the Afghan and international campaign “Women for Change”.
* COSPE Onlus is an Italian private, secular and non-profit organization. It aims at fostering social change, which guarantees fair and sustainable development, the respect of human rights, and peace and justice among people.
