Children in Scotland Conference: A Sense of Place

Starts: 08/06/2010 - 8:45am
Ends: 08/06/2010 - 4:00pm

Location: Drumossie Hotel, Inverness

Place and community as well as families can shape children's lives, informing their sense of identity, social relationships and understanding of the world. Services have an important role to play in enhancing children's environments as well as in developing their understanding of 'place' and community.

A special conference is being organised at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness in June to explore some of the issues raised by the latest issue of Children in Europe magazine.

These will include: how do services relate to the communities they serve? What does 'place' mean for children from indigenous and exogenous groups for whom a sense of place can have multiple meanings? How can family learning help build understanding across cultures? What policies and strategies can help Europe's rural areas close the gap in services?
