The Gathering is Scotland's largest voluntary sector fair, organised by the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations. With over 3000 visitors over the course of two days, it is the largest event of its kind in the United Kingdom. The European Parliament will have a presence at the fair to publicise the fact that 2011 is the European Year of Volunteering.
On Thursday, February 24th the European Parliament Office in Edinburgh will host a seminar with Irish MEP Marian Harkin, one of the key architects of the European Year of Volunteering, who will be joined by other experts from across the EU to explain and discuss the aims and objectives of the European Year, as well as the work and role of the European Parliament and other EU institutions in the spheres of volunteering and voluntary work. There will also be a Q&A session. The seminar will start at 9.30 am and run until approximately 11 am. An interview with Marian Harkin MEP on the role volunteering has to play in Europe's economic recovery is available here.
The European Parliament Office in Edinburgh will have a stand at the Gathering both days, distributing material about the European Year of Volunteering 2011 and the European Parliament in general, as well as hosting 'meet your MEP' sessions on our stand.
