112 - your European Emergency Number
What is 112?
112 is a general emergency number which you can use in ALL EU countries. Anyone in need can call it 24/7 to reach the fire brigade, ambulance, police or coastguard. The number is free and can be reached by landlines, mobiles and payphones. You can even use it here in the UK instead of 999 (though it does not replace it).
The EU brought 112 in so that people crossing Europe's borders wouldn't have to store or search for different national numbers, which can vary from one place to another. 112 is easy to remember - important when people are in distress and need to get help fast.
DON'T FORGET: 1+1=2!
