On 5 November, the AFET Committee will hold its 11th joint meeting with Chairs of its partner committees in the EU national parliaments. The aim of such biannual meetings is to improve the democratic scrutiny of the EU's common foreign and security policy.
Three key actors responsible for EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and external affairs have been invited to debate with national parliamentarians. Ms Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations and Mr Javier Solana, High Representative for CFSP are to discuss recent developments in their areas of responsibility, whereas Mr Olli Rehn, Commissioner for Enlargement, will present the progress reports of the countries in enlargement process, to be adopted a few hours before the joint meeting.
Mr Solana is foreseen to speak at 11h00 - 12h30, Mr Rehn, at 15h00 - 16h30 and Ms Ferrero Waldner, from 16h30 to 18h30 (room: PHS 1A002).
