Joint Parliamentary Meeting "Europe: migration and integration"

The Joint Parliamentary Meeting (JPM) "Europe: Migration and Integration", co-organized by the European Parliament and the French Parliament (Senate and National Assembly), took place in the European Parliament in Brussels on 10 and 11 September 2008.

Members of the European Parliament and of the National Parliaments of the member countries of the European Union and candidate countries gathered to debate around three main topics:

- What type of legal immigration and which path to succesful integration in the European Union?

- Which European policy on ilegal immigration?

- Asylum in Europe: Which common policy?

The President of the European Commission and its Vicepresident responsible for Justice and Home affairs as well as Representatives of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union took part in that JPM, which was formally closed by the three co-chairs of the Meeting, Mr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, Mr. Christian Poncelet, President of the French Senate, and Mr. Bernard Accoyer, President of the French National Assembly.
