Members of the European Parliament and of the National Parliaments of the European Union and candidate countries gathered in Strasbourg on 20 and 21 November for a new Joint Parliamentary Meeting (JPM). This time the topic to deal with was Energy and Sustainable Development.
Different issues were in the agenda of this JPM:
Europe's energy policy and security of supply;
Energy innovation and sustainable development;
European energy policy, Climate change and International negotiations.
These issues were dealt by working groups and presented to the plenary.
This JPM was co-organized by the EP and the French Parliament (National Assembly and Senate) and was co-chaired by the respective Presidents. Among other speakers, the French Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Jean-Pierre Jouyet, the French Minister for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning, Mr. Jean-Louis Borloo, the Vice-president of the European Commission, Mrs. Margot Wällstrom, and as a guest speaker, Mrs. Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency.
