| EDCs are chemical substances in the environment which have a potential effect on the endocrine (hormonal) system of living beings. Little is known about the workings of such chemicals alone or together in the environment, but there is evidence of serious disturbance to animal reproductive function. |

A significant change in emphasis toward food safety has occurred in the Commission. Veterinary inspection has been moved from DG6 (Agriculture) to DG24 (Consumer and Health Protection). |
