After two years of negotiations, the text of a renewed partnership agreement between the European Union (EU) and the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) states was 'initialled' in April 2021. This new partnership agreement will soon replace the current Cotonou Partnership Agreement.

On 21 September, Parliament's research service (EPRS) published a briefing that explains the ins and outs of the negotiations and the substance of the new agreement.
