The EU quality policy aims at protecting the names of specific products to promote their unique characteristics, linked to their geographical origin as well as traditional know-how. The geographical indications recognition enables consumers to trust and distinguish quality products while also helping producers to market their products better.

DG AGRI presented the state of play of the revision of the GI system at the end of the public consultation launched by the Commission to invite citizens and organisations, and national and regional public authorities to contribute to the assessment of how to strengthen this system.
