On 26 January 2021, Members will discuss three petitions focusing on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on international travel. One petition complains about the difficulties of travelling outside the EU during this period, while another calls on the EU institutions to adopt common rules on international couples’ travel. Finally, the last petition laments the closure of the EU borders to Russian citizens, highlighting its impact on both the personal life of citizens and on the two economies.
At the meeting of 26 January 2021, the Committee will examine two petitions raising the issues of discrimination of the LGBTQI community and the creation of LGBT-free zones in Poland. The petitioners call for the intervention of the EU institutions to stop the defamation, violence and hate speech against LGBTQI persons and to abolish LGBT-free zones, as they are incompatible with the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the Treaties and values of the EU.
