On Tuesday 25 May 2021, the FEMM and LIBE committees held an exchange of views entitled ‘The Istanbul Convention - 10th anniversary, including the impact of the withdrawal of Turkey’.
This landmark treaty of the Council of Europe was signed in May 2011 in Istanbul. It aims at creating a legal framework at pan-European level to protect women against all forms of violence, and prevent, prosecute and eliminate violence against women and domestic violence.
The FEMM-LIBE exchange of views examined the accomplishments and challenges ten years later, including the recent decision of Turkey to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention.
