The workshop “Employment and social affairs - Achievements and challenges ahead” was organised at the request of the EMPL Committee to serve as preparation for the hearing of the Commissioner-designate and the discussion on the next Commission work programme. This workshop was in two parts. In the first part, two international organisations, the ILO and the OECD, presented their policy strategies for the future of work.

In the second part, experts analysed selected policy fields (fighting child poverty, developing skills for changing labour markets, ensuring minimum standards at work and protecting health and safety in an era of constantly evolving technology) throughout the life course of an EU citizen with a view to achievements of and challenges for EU policies.
