Erasmus+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Merging seven prior programmes, it offers opportunities not only for students, but also for a wide variety of individuals and organisations, helping them develop, share knowledge and have a life-changing experience at institutions and organisations in different countries. From 2014-2020, more than 4 million people will have taken part.

Between 2021 and 2027, the next generation of Erasmus+, the Commission proposal aims to give 12 million people the chance to enjoy a learning experience abroad. While the European Commission proposed a doubling of the current budget, the Parliament argues for a tripling, so that the programme will be better able to reach more people across more sectors and also boost participation among people with fewer opportunities. The Commission pledges to make the programme more inclusive and to simplify its implementation for beneficiaries, with the Parliament again going further in proposing robust measures to achieve these aims.
