The INGE Special Committee sent a mission to Washington D.C., from 21 to 24 February 2022. A seven-member delegation, led by Vladimír Bilčík (EPP, SK), met members of the National Security Council, officials at the White House, the Department of State and the Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency, and think tank and civil society representatives.

They explored how the EU and the US can cooperate to counter information manipulation and support democracy in the face of authoritarianism. They underlined the importance of democracies working together to fight authoritarian malign influence - a task also highlighted in the committee's draft report.

With a focus on the war in Ukraine, the MEPs also discussed with their US interlocutors how to defend our societies against hybrid warfare, conspiracy theories, political violence, cyberattacks and manipulation on online platforms, and the foreign covert funding of political activities.
