Monetary Dialogue with Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank
On Monday 28 November 2022, from 15:00 to 17:00, ECON Members held the fourth and last Monetary Dialogue of the year with the ECB President.
This Monetary Dialogue took place in a particularly challenging environment, still marked by high uncertainty and strong inflationary pressures: in October, headline inflation in the euro area reached its highest level since the introduction of the euro, with HICP inflation standing at 10.6%. Since the last Monetary Dialogue in September, the ECB's Governing Council has continued on its monetary policy tightening path (key interest rates have been increased further by 75 basis points).
The two specific topics of discussion as chosen by ECON for this Dialogue were:
1. Inflation as a global challenge, and
2. Inflation differentials: consequences for monetary policy.
